Jake Brawer is a Founding AI Engineer and postdoctoral researcher with a decade of experience building collaborative machines that fuse human insight and machine intelligence to tackle real-world problems. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale where he developed hybrid symbolic–subsymbolic methods for more adaptive and interpretable human–AI interaction, and now leads applied work in human–machine teaming, semantic localization, and energy-aware task allocation at the University of Colorado Boulder. His expertise spans machine learning, symbolic reasoning, reinforcement learning, and human-robot interaction, with applications in multi-agent teaming, natural language–guided behavior, and assistive technologies for people with visual, auditory, and motion impairments. As a founding engineer at a stealth AI startup, he brings research rigor to product-facing systems, and he also teaches and mentors graduate students to bridge theory and deployment. Known for pursuing technologies that both empower workers and restore independence to vulnerable populations, he combines scholarly depth with a practical focus on interpretable, human-centered AI.
