Top SchoolJames Troup is a Staff Engineer with 17 years of experience specialising in Linux, open source, infrastructure and reliability for large-scale systems. He has a proven track record of bootstrapping and scaling teams and services—from founding Canonical’s IS team managing global Ubuntu infrastructure to growing a managed services practice and leading IAAS products at Magalu Cloud. Comfortable at the intersection of hands-on engineering and leadership, he has run globally distributed teams and overseen thousands of nodes across industries such as Telco, FinServ and Healthcare. James favors breadth and depth, driven by curiosity and continuous improvement (kaizen), and enjoys tackling hard problems that materially impact customers. Now based in Bibury, England, he combines operational rigor with product-minded thinking to ship dependable cloud platforms and managed applications. A pragmatic builder who thrives working with smart people, he often focuses on systems-level tradeoffs that others miss until they become outages.
