Top SchoolJay Askren is a Site Reliability Engineer based in Lehi, Utah with two decades of professional software development experience and nine years focused on reliability and backend engineering. He has led large-scale data and cloud migrations—most notably helping forklift an 800-node, 25 TB/day image processing pipeline from a data center to AWS at Ancestry—and now applies that expertise to reliability at Pure Storage. Comfortable across product, research, and hands-on engineering roles, Jay has run development teams, built semantic multi-agent integrations, and driven performance and cost optimizations for high-throughput systems. His background in computational linguistics and formal CS (Rose-Hulman) gives him a rare mix of systems-level rigor and data-driven thinking, and he tends to surface practical provenance and visualization features that improve traceability in complex pipelines.
