Jeff Lefevre is a Scalability Advisor and database systems researcher with nine years of focused experience in physical database design, computational storage, and offloading data processing to storage engines. He has architected production-grade, fault-tolerant data connectors and pushdown computation at scale (Vertica, Spark) and led the Skyhook project to embed Apache Arrow into Ceph, creating an Arrow-native storage system that enables zero-copy data sharing and server-side computation. As an adjunct professor at UC Santa Cruz he mentored multiple Google Summer of Code and IRIS-HEP fellows and continues to bridge research and product by advising startups on parallelization and adversarial testing of agentic LLMs. Equally comfortable in low-level storage internals and high-level system architecture, he combines academic rigor (PhD) with hands-on engineering across Arrow, Spark, RocksDB, Ceph, Impala, and PostgreSQL.
