Top SchoolJeff Mahoney is a veteran engineering leader with nearly three decades of systems and Linux experience, now serving as VP Engineering and Head of Core Platforms at SUSE. He builds durable platforms and organizations, leading globally distributed teams across platform, edge, and cloud-native systems while keeping decisions close to the work. Grounded in kernel and open source engineering, he has hands-on history contributing to Linux subsystems (notably btrfs-related work) and designing kernel build and patch infrastructure. Jeff blends product direction, organizational design, and technical stewardship to make collaboration clearer and reduce operational friction. He also serves on the openSUSE board, helping guide governance for a large, long-running community—evidence of his interest in how open ecosystems scale. He’s especially drawn to roles at the intersection of open source, platform strategy, and long-term organizational health.
