Summary
👤
SeniorJess Johnson is a lead software engineer with 13 years of experience designing and shipping scalable, data-driven systems from API dashboards and cloud-native microservices to high-performance Python ETLs and consumer apps. Based in Eugene, Oregon, she favors Python and Django but pragmatically adopts the best tool for each job, with hands-on experience spanning DevOps automation, Postgres tuning, and front-end work in ES6/Backbone. She has led teams and solo-founded products—building a book discovery service that handled extreme traffic spikes and recommender algorithms—so she combines product instincts with deep technical ownership. Notably, she has built FHIR-compliant APIs and tooling to detect mismatches between API docs and behavior, reflecting a focus on observability and correctness. Jess holds a Computer Science degree from UC Berkeley and continuously pursues learning opportunities to stay current across languages and infrastructure.
