Top SchoolJesse O'brien is a Staff Software Engineer with 16 years of experience building full-stack and backend systems across startups and enterprises, now leading developer productivity initiatives at ZipRecruiter. A true polyglot, he has shipped production services in Go, PHP, C#, Ruby on Rails and modern TypeScript/React stacks, and contributed fixes and features to the core Laravel repo. He combines hands-on engineering—docker, k8s, gRPC/HTTP APIs and OpenAPI docs—with product-minded leadership, mentoring teams and migrating legacy systems to maintainable architectures. Jesse favors Unix philosophy, composition over inheritance, test-driven design, and pragmatic UX-informed engineering learned in part from a UX professional partner. He has a strong consulting background turning client requirements into shipping products for companies like WeWork, SkipTheDishes and Just Eat, and maintains practical open-source work such as a popular Laravel cheatsheet. Outside of work he tinkers with 3D printing, archery and building command-line tools that improve developer workflows.
