Jin Li is an IEEE Fellow and seasoned technology leader with decades of experience building high-impact storage and AI platforms, including leading the DLWorkspace project that evolved into Azure ML and co-founding Apulis Technology to deliver deployable private-cloud ML platforms and industrial AI inspection systems. At Microsoft he shipped widely used innovations—Local Reconstruction Code, data deduplication, FlashStore and contributions to BW-Tree—that saved the company hundreds of millions annually and influenced Windows, Azure, SQL Server and Bing. A hands-on researcher and engineer since his Tsinghua PhD, he bridged academic standards work in image/video compression with production systems at Microsoft Research Asia and Sharp Labs, with inventions adopted into H.264 and JPEG 2000. He combines deep distributed storage, systems and ML infrastructure expertise with startup execution, and has repeatedly translated research prototypes into large-scale, revenue-saving products. An interesting aside: he demonstrated computer programming to Chinese leader Xiaoping Deng in 1984, underscoring a career that spans both pioneering research and pragmatic engineering.
