João Alves
Engineering Manager at Adevinta
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
Summary
👤
SeniorJoão Alves is a Director of Engineering and fractional CTO with 13 years of experience building and scaling SaaS products, platform infrastructure, and high-performing engineering teams from Barcelona. He has led organizations of up to ~70 engineers and managed multi-million euro cloud budgets while driving decentralization of platform capabilities and measurable DevOps maturity improvements. João specializes in interim leadership (Fractional CTO/Interim Tech Lead), M&A tech diligence, crisis recovery, and assembling senior tech teams that gain autonomy and velocity. He combines hands-on software engineering roots (distributed systems, microservices, observability, and scalability) with a track record of reducing costs and improving reliability at scale. Notably, he transformed platform runtimes into “Elite DevOps” teams using DORA metrics and sped platform adoption while slashing onboarding time from six months to one. His background in both product-facing marketplaces and core platform services gives him a rare blend of strategic architecture, people leadership, and operational rigor.
