João De Paula is a serial entrepreneur and technical founder with 11 years of experience building and scaling startups across fintech and e-commerce. He co-founded Glio—the first Latin American company in Y Combinator—and later helped build Origin, a holistic employer-focused financial wellbeing platform, collectively raising over $70M from top-tier investors. As a hands-on CTO he led product and engineering teams, automated growth and operations (including ad automation and self-service support), and drove data-driven experimentation that achieved industry-leading conversion metrics. Now based in San Francisco, João combines legal training and YC entrepreneurial pedigree with venture experience as a Pioneer Fund partner while launching his next venture, Mesmer. Notably, he taught himself to code and often dives into the codebase himself, bridging strategy and execution to take companies from zero to one.
