Rockstar🎓
Top SchoolJoão Gante is a Senior Research Engineer with a decade of experience applying machine learning across telecom, construction, and software domains, currently working on Gemini Diffusion at Google DeepMind. Previously he led text generation on the transformers team at Hugging Face, combining deep research expertise with product-facing engineering to "make text generation users happy." He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering focused on ML for 5G signal processing, and has published work on positioning and beamforming in millimeter-wave systems. Comfortable across modalities (text, images, graphs, time-series) and the ML lifecycle—from data cleaning and uncertainty estimation to large-scale model deployment—he blends hands-on implementation with team leadership. Based in London, João brings an unusual mix of telecom signal-processing rigor and modern generative-model fluency that helps bridge cutting-edge research and practical engineering.
