Joaquim Patriarca is a geospatial expert and PhD candidate in Geoinformatics with over a decade of hands-on experience building GIS and WebGIS solutions for research, municipal planning, and decision support. He combines advanced remote sensing and machine learning techniques with strong software engineering skills—Python, PostGIS, Django, and modern JS frameworks—to automate land use/land cover mapping and integrate heterogeneous data sources like satellite imagery, sensors, VGI and social feeds. At INESC Coimbra and now at Município de Coimbra he has translated complex spatial models into operational platforms used for territorial management and urban/regional planning. He teaches and mentors students, bringing academic rigor to applied projects and supervising multidisciplinary teams. Known for practical, production-ready tooling (from Geospatial Data Cubes to GeoServer and PyQGIS workflows), he bridges research and deployment to accelerate spatial decision-making.

The Geoscientific Library for Analysis of Spatial Systems (GLASS) is a free and open source library for geospatial data science. It consistes of a set of Python Methods to support the automatization of spatial data science activities based on Geographic Information Systems Software. These Python Methods could be included in any high-level spatial analysis application.
