Joe Healey is a founder and life-science entrepreneur with nine years’ experience translating interdisciplinary academic research into a venture-backed synthetic biology company. He founded and led NanoSyrinx from its university spinout, raising ~£17M to develop novel biomacromolecular “nanosyringes” for therapeutic delivery and remains actively involved in the technology’s development. Combining a PhD from the University of Warwick with hands-on research and commercialization experience, he bridges deep technical expertise in molecular assembly with investor and industry engagement. He also serves on the UK Government’s Engineering Biology Steering Panel, helping shape deployment of national funding for the field. Notably, he describes himself wryly as “not really a bioinformatician, I just play one on the internet,” reflecting a practical, curious approach to computational tools alongside wet-lab innovation.
