Summary

Senior🎓
Top SchoolJoel Hedlund is a Data Science Director with 15 years of experience building and leading data-driven infrastructure and research programs across Sweden and the Nordic e-infrastructure ecosystem. He has steered large-scale bioinformatics and supercomputing initiatives—from hands-on application expertise to strategic partnerships and national infrastructure leadership at Linköping University, NeIC, CMIV/AIDA and now NAISS. Joel blends technical depth (PhD in Bioinformatics) with operational talent in project, portfolio and stakeholder management, routinely translating scientific requirements into scalable compute and data services. He is passionate about applying data science to public health, human rights and democratic values, and his career shows a track record of creating collaborative platforms (e.g., AIDA Data Hub) that increase research impact. Comfortable at the intersection of science, policy and infrastructure, he’s as likely to chair a steering group as to evaluate suitability of emerging HPC technologies. Colleagues describe him as a principled builder who prioritizes societal benefit alongside technical excellence.
