Summary
👤
SeniorJohan Pouwelse is an associate professor and scientific director of Europe's largest blockchain lab at Delft University of Technology, leading a 12-professor team that trains 65 master-level blockchain engineers annually. He has been researching distributed ledgers since 2007 and founded Blockchain-lab.org, building one of the largest experimental groups focused on self-organizing, blockchain-based Internet systems. His work centers on trust and identity, aiming to create scalable, attack-resilient token economies used by millions and to devise fundamental mechanisms for trust. Based in The Hague, he blends deep academic rigor with pragmatic system-building, shepherding long-running experimental deployments rather than just theoretical proposals. An often overlooked strength is his sustained focus on education-driven research, producing a steady pipeline of practitioners who turn lab prototypes into real-world infrastructure.
