Johannes Smolander is a bioinformatician and postdoctoral researcher based in Turku with a decade of experience applying NGS and single-cell analysis to hematology and immuno-oncology. He earned a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Turku after MSc/BS training in biomathematics and computational biology, and has shaped new scRNA-seq analysis methods during his doctoral work. At Turku Bioscience he developed and maintained NGS pipelines and supported cross-institutional projects across RNA-, DNA-, ATAC- and miRNA-seq, bringing both methodological rigor and practical service delivery. Now at the University of Helsinki’s HRUH and HaikaLab, he combines translational research with computational innovation to probe immune-oncology questions. Colleagues value his ability to bridge hands-on pipeline engineering with method development—often surfacing insights that improve reproducibility and downstream interpretation.
