Top SchoolJohn Buckman is a serial founder and CEO with deep experience building niche internet businesses and hardware-software products that blend craftsmanship with technology. As founder of Decent Espresso he leads product, software (web, tablet UI, APIs) and community efforts to bring professional-grade espresso control to the home by automating temperature, pressure and dosing with guided tablet interfaces. His track record includes founding and scaling music and media platforms (Magnatune, MoodMixes, iLicenseMusic) and the book-exchange BookMooch, plus founding and exiting Lyris, demonstrating an ability to turn ideas into sustainable businesses. He has a long history of civic and open-knowledge engagement, having chaired the EFF board and served on Creative Commons and other nonprofit boards. Bilingual in French and English and split between the Bay Area, Seattle, France and London, he combines philosophical training with hands-on engineering and product instincts. An uncommon thread in his work is translating domain expertise (barista knowledge, fair-trade music, community-driven libraries) into practical, user-focused technology.
