Top SchoolJohn Papanastasiou is a seasoned backend engineer based in London with over 15 years of hands-on experience and a 20-year journey through software development that spans programming, architecture, and senior management. He specializes in Python and Django on UNIX/Linux systems, with strong experience building RESTful microservices, AWS-hosted services, Kafka integrations, and BDD test suites at scale. John has modernised legacy platforms—migrating Python 2 to 3, designing HATEOAS APIs, and creating tactical data ingestion pipelines—and contributed to the popular django-oscar e-commerce project by improving core order, catalogue and image-import functionality. A pragmatic engineer and frequent contractor, he pairs deep backend craftsmanship (including C/C++ and custom DB backends) with mentoring and process improvements like Git workflows and CI/CD. Notably, he blends product-focused delivery with infrastructure savvy, having implemented bespoke templating and zero-downtime customisation systems for multi-tenant deployments.
