Top SchoolJohn Peñafiel is a founding software engineer with 11 years of experience building pragmatic cybersecurity products, currently leading R&D for the Pangolin Smart Firewall at TeamRed Security Inc. He blends deep network engineering and low-level systems work—custom Linux kernels, Netfilter optimizations, WireGuard tooling—with full-stack product delivery, from embedded distro and OTA updaters to accessible UI/UX for non-technical users. Previously he contributed to HPE Fortify-on-Demand, automating mobile and web security checks and prototyping continuous app monitoring. John pairs hands-on implementation skills across Python, C, JavaScript and Yocto-based embedded builds with DevOps fluency in Docker, Kubernetes and Ansible, and his team’s device earned a Cybersecurity Level 2 label and industry recognition at InnoVEX. He’s also a visual designer and multilingual communicator (English, Tagalog, Japanese JLPT N2), a combination that helps him craft security tools that are both effective and approachable.
