Top SchoolJohn Vining is a software engineer specializing in privacy infrastructure with 13 years of experience building reliable systems and leading engineering teams. He has deep domain experience from Epic, where he worked on interoperability and helped customers exchange ~250 million records monthly, and now works on privacy at Meta. Grounded in quality assurance and user-centered design, he pairs rigorous testing instincts with a liberal-arts background in philosophy and history of math and science to ask better questions about how systems fail. John loves making legacy systems more capable—his GitHub interest in “what new stuff can do for old stuff” reflects a practical curiosity about incremental modernization. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, he’s comfortable moving between hands-on engineering, management, and conversations with users about broken software.
