Top SchoolJohnathan Saunders is a seasoned engineering leader with a decade of experience building backend services, mobile apps, and dynamic web applications from Jersey City. Currently Director of Engineering for Backend Services at Phone.com, he has progressed through hands-on roles from senior engineer to manager, demonstrating a rare blend of individual contributor skills and people leadership across Android, iOS, React, Python, and SQL-backed systems. He led cross-functional teams of 3–6 engineers, designed microservice backends on AWS Lambdas, and owned API and database architectures that supported product-facing mobile and web clients. At Cogniscreen he bridged clinical users and engineering by building a physician-facing cognitive assessment platform, integrating IBM Watson speech-to-text and end-to-end testing. Comfortable in both agile and predictive processes, he’s known for translating domain needs into pragmatic technical designs and for shipping production-quality mobile and backend features. With BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from Rowan University, he brings academic rigor to practical product delivery.
