Jon Freer
Summary
👤
SeniorJon Freer is a Principal Software Engineer with eight years of experience building scalable, REST-first platforms and complex domain models across logistics and transportation. He has repeatedly led architecture and implementation efforts at companies like Uber Freight and Isometric Technologies, owning foundational systems such as compliance engines, multi-stop shipments, and high-throughput public APIs that handle up to a million requests weekly. Known for translating hard domain problems into robust, auditable solutions, he also drives engineering processes—mentoring peers, shaping interview programs, and improving CI, observability, and data ingestion pipelines. Based in San Clemente, California, Jon combines deep practical expertise in RESTful API design with a penchant for modeling and system design, and has a track record of reducing operational risk and scaling platforms to support new business modalities. An understated detail: despite a self-deprecating GitHub bio, his work has repeatedly enabled major business and cost-saving outcomes in large-scale freight systems.
