Jon Tara
Chief Code-Wrangler at Watusiware Corporation
San Diego, California, United States
Summary
👤
SeniorJon Tara is a veteran software engineer and founder who has spent four decades building systems that range from microprocessor-based CNC controllers and PLC-like languages to high-frequency trading platforms and modern hybrid mobile apps. As Chief Code-Wrangler at Watusiware and former lead at companies like eGrove and Sony, he combines deep low-level firmware and embedded experience with contemporary full‑stack skills in Ruby, JavaScript, and cloud-native architectures. He’s repeatedly delivered mission-critical projects that became industry staples (contributions that helped spawn technologies like DreamWeaver features, the Case‑Shiller precursor, and widely used VSA tooling) and has a rare talent for synthesizing techniques across disciplines. Comfortable as both architect and hands‑on developer, he’s skilled at refactoring legacy systems, optimizing performance (including dramatic database and query speedups), and shepherding apps to production and app stores. Based in San Diego, he’s an early adopter who still pursues electronics and ham radio as a creative influence on his software work.
