Top SchoolJose Sousa is a Principal Investigator and interdisciplinary AI researcher with over seven years of focused experience translating cognitive science and health data challenges into explainable, decision-support systems for medicine. He holds a PhD in Information Systems and Technology and has led teams and large funded projects across academia and industry, including roles as Group Lead at Sano and CTU Manager at Queen's University Belfast. His signature contributions—tools like CACTUS and SaNDA—address continuous learning and robust inference from small, incomplete clinical datasets, enabling more trustworthy personalized care. Jose combines hands-on systems design (CIO/CTO experience building research information systems and platforms) with a strong publication record in top-tier journals, editorial roles, and invited teaching. He has applied his methods to public health problems such as COVID-19 surveillance, demonstrating impact beyond theory into operational health infrastructure. Colleagues describe him as a methodologically original thinker who builds cognitively inspired, resource-efficient AI that mirrors human decision-making under uncertainty.
