José Urgilés is an Ecuadorian composer and academic leader based in Cuenca, directing the Universidad de Cuenca’s MediaLab with over a decade of experience bridging composition, pedagogy, and technology. Trained in composition (licenciatura and master’s) under noted composers, he composes for orchestra, chamber ensembles, acousmatic and real-time electronics, and has increasingly explored new technologies and multimedia for sound art. As a longtime faculty member and researcher in musical pedagogy, he combines curriculum design and mentorship with hands-on creative practice. Uncommonly for a composer, he has contributed to open-source hardware software—extending Arduino support in a Python Firmata library—illustrating a practical fluency in embedded systems and interactive music technologies.

Contributions summary:José's primary contribution revolves around adding support for the Arduino Nano board to the pyfirmata library. They updated board definitions in `boards.py`, including pin configurations and PWM settings. Additionally, the user added and corrected the class name for the Arduino Nano in the `__init__.py` file, integrating the new board definition into the overall system. The changes indicate a focus on extending hardware compatibility for the Firmata protocol within the context of the Arduino Nano.
