Senior🎓
Top SchoolJosh Mottaz is a Director of Platform Engineering based in New York with a decade of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems, especially around API design, diagnostics, and observability. He leads teams while remaining hands-on—recently overhauling a Golang message-passing layer that processes billions of device messages monthly and driving a Kubernetes migration for improved stability. His background spans supercomputing diagnostics at Cray to architecting Kafka-based video aggregation and feed APIs that handled tens of millions of clips per day at Canary. Pragmatic about developer experience, he prioritizes good documentation, metrics, and diagnosability, and has a history of shipping tooling that reduced operational load and query volume. Notably detail-oriented, he has built CLI and visualization tools used for diagnostics and triage across hardware and cloud systems. He enjoys dabbling in web tech in his free time and prefers interesting, non-boring problems over generic roles.
