Top SchoolJyrki Niemi is a Professor at the Natural Resources Institute Finland with over two decades of expertise in agricultural and trade policy analysis across Finland and the EU. He has led and secured funding for numerous domestic and EU research projects, managed their financial and administrative resources, and served as an expert advisor to the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Parliament. His career blends rigorous academic work—supervising graduate theses and teaching agricultural economics—with practical policy impact, including chairing working groups that shaped national agricultural strategy during EU enlargement. Earlier international experience, including research roles in Malaysia and the US, informs his comparative perspective on agri-food trade and market dynamics. Unusually for a senior economist, he also contributes to language technology efforts within the FIN-CLARIN research infrastructure, bridging domain research and digital infrastructure.
