Karl Lehenbauer is a veteran software architect and entrepreneur with over two decades building real-time, mission-critical systems—from FlightAware’s global flight-tracking platform to engine monitoring at GE and power-grid control software. A founder of the first ISP in the southern U.S. and an early Internet pioneer, he has deep hands-on experience designing scalable, high-availability infrastructure and helped shape the Tcl language and contributions to Apache and other long-running open-source projects. As FlightAware’s cofounder and CTO he led engineering through acquisition by Collins Aerospace and now advises and invests in aerospace and tech ventures. Outside of software he channels the same precision into competitive motorsports and endurance outdoor pursuits, including a regional racing championship, reflecting a practical, risk-aware approach to product and systems design.
