Top SchoolKevin Vinsen is a Senior Research Fellow with over 14 years building mission-critical, data-intensive systems for astronomy and defence, currently tackling ExaFlop-scale computing, ExaByte storage and ExaByte/s networking challenges for the SKA at ICRAR. He blends deep systems and software engineering (C/C++, Java, Python, HPC, databases, low-latency scheduling) with architecture and strategic thinking from decades of systems- and integration- engineering roles. Kevin leads international integrations (LSST, Pan-STARRS) to fuse radio and optical data pipelines and researches storage, dataflow and visualization constraints driven by power and scale. A seasoned educator and communicator, he also engages in outreach across schools and professional audiences to translate ICT constraints of big-science projects. Less obvious: his background spans formal methods, AI/genetic algorithms and SCADA/command-and-control systems, giving him a rare mix of research, operational systems and applied machine learning experience.
