Lachlan Toohey is a robotics engineer and co-founder with 15 years' experience designing localisation, calibration, planning and control systems for autonomous underwater vehicles. He holds a PhD in Robotics from the University of Sydney and has led both research and operational programs as a postdoctoral researcher and senior technical officer at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics. Lachlan combines algorithm development and hands-on software engineering with extensive field leadership, running remote offshore deployments for the IMOS AUV Facility and managing long-term marine data assets. He’s skilled at taking novel cooperative localisation ideas from simulation into robust, sea-tested systems and has taught introductory programming to engineering students. Now scaling those capabilities through Seascape Autonomy, he blends academic rigour with product-minded execution to solve real-world marine autonomy challenges. A lesser-known strength is his long experience in end-to-end data management for multi-year underwater imagery collections, giving him deep insight into practical sensor and lifecycle issues.
