Leon Sandøy is a founding engineer and technology leader with a decade of hands-on experience building developer-centric platforms, tooling, and AI-first systems from Norway. Currently CTO at ion8 and founding engineer at Journalia, he blends strategic leadership with frequent hands-on coding across TypeScript, Python and Go to ship scalable, secure products in medtech and beyond. He cofounded Python Discord and is a significant contributor to its well-known community bot projects, applying pragmatic backend engineering, CI/CD, and developer experience improvements to large volunteer ecosystems. Leon also runs Hideous Monster to advise engineering teams on culture, process and architecture, uniquely pairing consultancy with active coding. Colleagues describe him as someone who deliberately designs roles to give engineers problems to solve, not just solutions to implement — and he builds environments where creativity and psychological safety matter as much as technical excellence.
