Top SchoolLuca Roffia is a CEO and academic entrepreneur who transforms semantic web, IoT, and digital twin research into practical, human-centered products as co-founder and CEO of VAIMEE and long-time software engineer at the University of Bologna. With a PhD in Computer Engineering and two decades of European research projects behind him, he specializes in interoperability—making sensors, databases, and people speak a shared language to tackle sustainability, education, and disaster management. He has moved seamlessly between academia and industry as an adjunct professor, researcher, and startup leader, bringing scientific rigor to product design and open-data practices. His work uniquely combines immersive educational tools and agricultural tech, from smart irrigation to urban farming, showing a knack for making invisible system dynamics tangible. Known for framing interoperability as a human challenge, he builds tools that empower diverse users—farmers, students, and municipal planners alike—to make better decisions. Based in Bologna, he remains driven by curiosity and collaboration, favoring pragmatic, cross-disciplinary solutions over buzzword-driven architectures.
