Marcelo Mottalli

Summary
👤
SeniorMarcelo Mottalli is a Staff Software Engineer with 13 years of experience building high-performance web and data systems, currently working at Shopify out of Dublin. He blends low-level optimization expertise—having built a JIT-compiled OLAP query engine using LLVM—with large-scale product work such as leading data-processing teams at Zendesk and launching a personal data monetization platform as an engineering manager. His background spans industry and academia, including PhD research in image processing and signal analysis, which informs his pragmatic approach to complex algorithmic problems. A hands-on technical leader, he has repeatedly formed and mentored teams, driven cross-functional technical decisions, and delivered MVPs under tight timelines. Less obvious: he’s comfortable moving between C++ systems-level work and product-focused cloud engineering, making him effective at both performance tuning and shipping customer-facing analytics.
