Summary
👤
Senior🎓
Top SchoolMarcelo R is a senior full-stack software engineer based in Quito with over 14 years of professional experience and a 17-year background in software across telecom, banking, healthcare, legal, and transportation sectors. He has worked as an independent consultant and in senior roles at firms like Smith & Carson and Toptal, and has run his own contracting practice since 2019, balancing deep technical delivery with client-facing responsibilities. Marcelo brings a pragmatic, end-to-end perspective—from system analysis and backend services to web development and support engineering—grounded in an engineering degree from Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas - ESPE. His career shows a pattern of adapting legacy systems and building maintainable, cross-domain solutions for regulated industries. Comfortable operating solo or embedded in distributed teams, he focuses on shipping reliable software that meets operational and business constraints. Colleagues would note his blend of longevity in the field with hands-on coding and systems thinking that surfaces practical improvements rather than theoretical architectures.
