Top SchoolMark Schmidt is a systems-focused software engineer with a decade of professional experience building low-level and distributed systems, currently contributing to Google after a multi-year progression from Associate to Senior Software Engineer at Ocient. He has hands-on expertise in embedded and flight-control software from leading Illini Hyperloop’s software team, and in secure distributed systems—having built an SSL encryption layer for Ocient’s database networking. Comfortable across hardware-adjacent firmware and backend infrastructure, he also has a history of mentoring and teaching, from university course assistant roles to running CS classes for underserved middle schoolers. Mark graduates early from UIUC’s CS program and brings a practical blend of academic rigor, production reliability, and a clear interest in expanding access to quality education.
