Top SchoolMartin Matthiesen is a Senior Application Specialist with 12+ years maintaining and evolving language research infrastructure at CSC — combining deep Unix, Perl and Python skills with strong DevOps and data management experience. His background in linguistics and computer science drives a pragmatic approach to persistent identifiers, heterogeneous computing environments, and services for the Kielipankki language resource. Previously he led systems and second-line support at Kielikone, introduced version control and QA processes, and maintained C code for machine translation—skills that bridge research software and production operations. Colleagues know him as a decisive problem-solver and collaborative team player who can move from low-level tooling to service-level decisions. Based in Espoo, he brings an unusual mix of humanities training and hands-on engineering that helps translate linguistic research needs into robust, reproducible infrastructure.
