Martin Middel is a founder and seasoned XML and web developer with 12 years of experience building and championing Fonto’s browser-based XML editor and the only open-source XPath 3.1 engine that runs client-side. He combines hands-on engineering—designing an XPath/XQuery/XQuery Update Facility engine and maintaining FontoXPath—with developer advocacy and consultancy work to help teams adapt and optimize editors for performance, stability, and UX. Martin has led development, trained new engineers, presented at conferences, and writes technical blog posts that translate real-world requirements into product improvements. Based in Haarlem, he stays active in open source and consults through his company Elliat, bringing practical XML expertise to integrations and customizations. Outside work he’s an avid homebrewer—a small hint at his patient, experimental approach to engineering.
