Top SchoolMartin Spickermann is a seasoned backend engineering leader with 12 years of experience building and operating high-scale web and IoT systems, now managing senior backend teams at Storyblok. He blends hands-on technical craft—architecture, security, and developer efficiency—with people leadership, having served as Principal Engineer and CTO right-hand at Localyze and led backend efforts at Shopify, sonnen, and Envato. Martin has repeatedly scaled teams and systems, from growing startups to enterprise-grade platforms handling millions of events per hour and millions of monthly visitors. He’s comfortable owning availability, compliance, and CI/CD practices while mentoring engineers and shaping R&D strategy. A pragmatic problem-solver, he favors gradual degradation detection and resilient design over single-point fixes, bringing both operational rigor and a product-minded approach to engineering.
