Mary Makarious is an Egyptian-American biomedical data scientist with a decade of experience applying genomics, machine learning, and cloud-enabled pipelines to neurodegenerative disease research. She holds a PhD from UCL/NIH for work that developed scalable, multi-omic analysis workflows and uncovered genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s disease in diverse populations. At NIH and Data Tecnica she built GenoML and reproducible Terra pipelines, led large WGS analyses, and now consults on genomics for neurodegeneration while co-leading open-science data dissemination for GP2. She combines hands-on engineering of open-source tools with mentorship and operational leadership—running hackathons, training programs, and regular data releases—to make complex genomics accessible and inclusive. Fluent in Arabic and experienced in clinical settings, she brings a rare mix of computational rigor, translational perspective, and community-focused advocacy.
