Top SchoolMat Gilbert is a founder and seasoned software engineer with 11 years of experience building PHP and Node.js web applications, specializing in backend systems, RESTful APIs, and data modeling. Based in Burlington, Vermont, he blends entrepreneurial drive with hands-on engineering—running vtapi.co while shipping niche products like a custom photo-booth software and a Lake Champlain lure business. His work spans integrations with third-party SaaS, geospatial and map-based applications, and practical experimentation in 3D printing and low-cost electronics. A former enterprise architect for the State of Vermont and backend engineer at startups and media companies, he focuses on long-term project success by empowering teams and creating maintainable, well-documented solutions. Notably, he turns personal curiosities into products—whether automated pen drawings at events or commercial fishing lures—demonstrating a knack for applying software skills to real-world, physical outcomes.
