Top SchoolMatt Loar is an independent financial consultant and biotechnology CFO with 13+ years focused on public and private health care companies, specializing in smaller, under-recognized firms with novel pipelines and high-risk, high-reward approaches to treating serious conditions. He has deep CFO experience across biotech startups and public companies—from Genelabs and Osteologix to Mateon and KineMed—and a track record of steering finance, reporting, and strategy through clinical and commercial inflection points. Based in California, he combines financial leadership with legal training (BA, Legal Studies, UC Berkeley) and a pragmatic interest in code and legal work, reflecting a hands-on, interdisciplinary approach to problem solving. Known for seeking out unconventional science and management structures, he helps early-stage teams translate scientific promise into investor-ready operations and compliant financial programs.
