Top SchoolMatthew Garden is a Staff Developer based in Ottawa with over a decade of experience building software across startups and large enterprises, from embedded C on networking switches to Cocoa iPad apps and cloud-backed web services. He blends hands-on engineering with mentorship and technical leadership, having led features and research projects at SMART and spent nine years developing the Lightspeed Retail iPad app. Comfortable across platforms (real-time, desktop, Linux, Windows, macOS, and web) and languages (C, C++, Objective-C, C#, Python, Perl), he focuses on practical automation and continuous improvement to reduce repetitive work. At Shopify he continues to apply broad systems knowledge to scale product-grade software while embracing new tools and workflows. A quick learner with an MSc in Computer Science, he often pairs product-minded thinking with low-level expertise—an approach that produced internal tools such as a bug-forecasting web app early in his career.
