Top SchoolMatthew Root is an engineering manager in San Francisco with nine years of software leadership experience building product and engineering organizations that scale. He has a track record of turning early-stage teams into reliable delivery engines—recruiting and growing a 13-person org at Uptrust that helped send 150k monthly messages and drove 400% revenue growth to $1.2M ARR. At Optimizely and Opower he improved developer productivity and release velocity through automation, testing, and process improvements, and now leads engineering at Square. He blends hands-on technical problem solving (from electrical engineering roots and early implementation work) with product-minded management, and has driven socially impactful work serving justice-involved people. Colleagues would note his focus on long-term, civilizational impact through software and his habit of documenting expectations and ways of working publicly.
