Matthias Gomolka is a data engineer with a decade of experience building and operationalizing large-scale research data pipelines at the Deutsche Bundesbank. Over five years at the Research Data and Service Centre he progressed from scripting small Stata/SAS extracts to designing robust R-based production pipelines and leading a reusable framework for research dataset production. He manages and serves some of the centre’s largest datasets (hundreds of GB) via Microsoft SQL and Apache Hive, and helped architect an institution-wide analytics platform on the Cloudera stack. To address statistical disclosure control challenges he developed the sdcLog R package and authored practical SDC guidance, blending technical tooling with clear documentation. Trained as an economist at Heidelberg University, he combines domain knowledge in economics and SDC with hands-on engineering to make large, sensitive datasets usable and auditable for researchers.
