Matthias Schmidt is a strategic learning and digital transformation leader with over 15 years’ experience building next-generation learning ecosystems for multinational organisations across Europe, the US and Asia. As Head of Education Design at AO Foundation/AO Trauma he aligns global upskilling programmes and education technology to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes, while scouting EdTech for a digital transformation fund. Previously he led Swisscom’s learning architecture and strategy, transforming a 100-person L&D function and delivering large-scale reskilling for ~17,000 employees informed by people analytics. Trained in strategy consulting and venture partnerships, Matthias blends business strategy, product development and technology scouting to turn disruptive trends into operational learning solutions. He is pursuing an EdD at the University of Pennsylvania researching Generative AI’s role in human–machine collaboration and systemic change in work and learning, and outside work channels the same endurance and community focus into competitive cycling.
