Top SchoolMax Worgan is a pragmatic backend engineer and Research Computing Officer with over a decade of experience building and operating reliable backend services across government, fintech, healthcare, media and academia. For the past ten years he’s specialised in Scala and functional programming while choosing the right tool for each problem, and he led a recent infrastructure modernisation at the University of Sussex migrating labs to infrastructure-as-code and deploying a Prometheus/Grafana monitoring stack. He combines hands-on systems work—designing Slurm-based ML research infrastructure and automating deployments for 50+ research workstations—with academic rigour as a PhD candidate in Music Technology. Based in Brighton, he blends production-grade engineering discipline with research-driven curiosity, bringing unusual cross-domain insight from music technology into systems and tooling design.
