Top SchoolMichael Xie is an interdisciplinary data scientist and linguist blending 10 years of technical and research experience with elite-level competitive figure skating. Currently an undergraduate research assistant at Berkeley’s Biological and Artificial Languages Lab and affiliated with Johns Hopkins/Allen Institute MD-PhD work in neural dynamics, he focuses on modeling and speech/linguistics applications including TTS and language revitalization. He has hands-on experience across startups and consulting—ranging from wellness tech and skincare strategy to fashion-market analysis—bringing product-minded rigor to research problems. Michael pairs front-end and data-science skills from UC Berkeley with practical speech-processing internships and research that bridge computational models and animal/biological studies. Outside the lab, his discipline as a nationally ranked skater and team captain informs leadership, resilience, and high-stakes performance under pressure. A curious polymath, he often connects technical work with human-centered storytelling and recruitment/brand strategy to broaden impact.
