Top SchoolMike Hurwitz is a Staff Engineer based in New York with 11 years of mid-to-senior level experience and a long track record designing and operating large-scale systems across finance, adtech, healthcare, and consumer platforms. He moves between architecture and hands-on reliability work, most recently joining Datadog after a Site Reliability role in Citadel’s Risk Engineering team and multi-year principal/architect leadership at Bluecore. His background includes driving platform reliability and engineering productivity at companies from Tumblr and Shutterstock to Blink Health, and earlier leadership at FactSet where he combined management with deep systems engineering. Mike’s strengths lie in bridging engineering strategy and operational rigor—building resilient services while mentoring teams to run them in production. He brings a pragmatic, multidisciplinary approach informed by a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon and decades of experience solving real-world, latency- and integrity-sensitive problems. A detail that surprises: despite senior roles, he continues to alternate between core systems work and architecture practice, keeping both coding chops and long-term strategic thinking sharp.
