Top SchoolMikel Román is a freelance software engineer based in Barcelona with a decade of experience focused on back-end engineering, high-performance computing, and distributed systems. He blends hands-on production experience from IBM and Openfort.io with research roots at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and DeustoTech, giving him a strong foundation in scaling compute-intensive services. Known as a "code spelunker," he enjoys diving into complex systems and optimizing performance bottlenecks across infrastructure and services. Comfortable in both research and product contexts, he repeatedly turns HPC concepts into practical backend solutions for real-world applications. Mikel’s dual degrees in Computer Engineering and Industrial Electronics, plus a Master’s in High Performance Computing, underpin a pragmatic, systems-first approach to architecture and implementation.
