Top SchoolMisha Padidar is a Research Fellow at the Flatiron Institute with a decade of experience applying applied mathematics, numerical optimization, and machine learning to complex physics design problems. He completed a PhD in Applied Mathematics at Cornell and has blended academic rigor with industry impact through roles at Uber and research internships at Argonne, where his derivative-free optimization work informed accelerator and constrained-design problems. At Uber he translated large-scale data analysis into product decisions, while his Flatiron and lab projects focus on stellarator design and leveraging ML to accelerate simulation-driven discovery. Known for bridging theory and practice, he often adapts “off-the-shelf” optimization tools to handle unrelaxable constraints—unlocking simpler solutions for otherwise specialized problems. Based in New York, he combines deep technical expertise with teaching and mentoring experience from leading graduate-level coursework and recitations.
